नाइरोबी (IDN) – नौ महीने बंद रहने के बाद, एक नए सत्र की शुरुआत करने और COVID-19 की विश्वव्यापी महामारी के परिणामस्वरूप 2020 में बाधित हुए विद्यालय वर्ष को फिर से शुरू करने के लिए केन्या के स्कूल फिर से खुले। 4 जनवरी की सुबह, रास्तों पर उल्लसित बच्चों के झुंड रंगबिरंगी पोशाकें पहनकर अपने स्कूल जाते हुए देखे गए।

बच्चे फिर से स्कूल जाने को लेकर उत्साहित थे। न्यू पुमवानी प्राइमरी स्कूल में पढ़ने वाली, केट की 12 वर्ष की बेटी ने कहा कि, घर पर रहना थकाने वाला और उबाऊ अनुभव था। उसने कहा, “मैं फिर से पढ़ना चाहती थी, मुझे मेरे सहपाठियों व शिक्षकों की याद आती थी, और मैं फिर से स्कूल लौटकर खुश हूँ।”

COVID-19 Decimating Ranks of Zimbabwe’s Government

NEW YORK (IDN) – The coronavirus is reaping a “grim harvest” in Zimbabwe. Those were the words of President Emmerson Mnangagwa acknowledging the deadly reach of the virus in the nation’s highest ranks of government.

Zimbabwe’s transport and foreign ministers both succumbed to the coronavirus less than two days of each other. Four ministers have died so far, with several more reportedly fighting for their lives in hospital.

Transformation of Agri-Food Systems Crucial for FAO in 2021

ROME (IDN) – Director-General QU Dongyu of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has declared 2021 a key year to move forward the transformation of agri-food systems, marked by big events, particularly the UN Food Systems Summit in New York, the Pre-Summit in Rome, and FAO’s Youth World Food Forum.

People’s Movement Launched in South Africa To Defeat Covid-19

“The pandemic is wreaking havoc,” organizers proclaimed in a recent letter published in the Mail&Guardian. “Vaccinating a significant part of the population is the only way to defeat the pandemic.”
