22年前に採択された画期的な国連決議で定められた年次報告をアントニオ・グテーレス事務総長が発表したことを受けて、「女性・平和・安全に関する安保理公開討論」が先ごろ開催された。この中でアミナ・モハマド国連副事務総長は、女性の人権擁護とさらなる包摂の促進は、平和と安全をもたらす戦略として既に証明されたものであると語った。

グテーレス事務総長はその年次報告で「2000年以降の規範的な合意があり、ジェンダー平等が持続的な平和と紛争予防への道を提供するとの証拠があるにも関わらず、事態はその反対方向に向かっています。今日、世界では女性の人権に関してこの世代を通じて勝ち取られてきた成果がなきものにされようとする一方で、暴力的な紛争や軍事支出の増大を目の当たりにしています。」と語った。
